Richard A. Bennett, 42, received his B.A. with honors from Harvard University in 1986 and his M.B.A. from the University of Southern Maine in 2000. He has an extensive background in politics and government service as well as a wide range of private sector experience.

A former President of the Maine Senate, Mr. Bennett served four terms in the Maine Senate and two terms in the Maine House of Representatives. In 1994 he was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Maine’s second district. He served as director of corporate governance for Lens Investment Management, LLC, from 1997 to 2002.

He currently serves as a corporate governance consultant with Lens Governance Advisors, PA., founded and owned by pioneering shareholder activist Robert A.G. Monks. Mr. Bennett is also a principal of The Corporate Library, LLC; an independent director of Biddeford Internet Corporation; a non-executive director of Trucost PLC; and a director of EnterpriseMaine.

He has been written about in Pensions & Investments, The Daily Deal, and Barron’s, and cited in numerous publications including BusinessWeek, USA Today, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal. A member of the International Corporate Governance Network, Mr. Bennett has spoken publicly about governance issues at Columbia University, University of Southern Maine School of Business, and for The Conference Board and the Investor Responsibility Research Center, among others.

In 2005 Mr. Bennett was appointed by President Bush to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. He also serves as a director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center and of the Maine League of Conservation Voters, is a fellow with the U.S.-Japan Leadership Program, was delegate to the 1996 and 2004 Republican National Conventions, and participated as an observer to the national election in Macedonia in 2002. He is a private pilot, farms Christmas trees, and enjoys long-distance running. He lives in Oxford, Maine, with his wife Karen, his daughter Abigail (9) and his son Nathaniel (7).
