FREDERICK E. ROWE, JR.


Frederick E.(Shad) Rowe grew up in Dallas where he graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas in 1964. He attended Washington & Lee University in 1964-65, and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1968 with a B.A. in history. Mr. Rowe attended Naval Officer Candidate School in the fall of 1968, received a commission as an Ensign, and was released from active duty in July 1970. Mr. Rowe attended the Graduate Business School at the University of Texas at Austin and received a Masters in Business Administration in 1972.

Mr. Rowe joined Schneider, Bernet & Hickman, Inc. Investment Bankers (“Schneider, Bernet”) in October 1972 as Assistant Corporate Syndicate Manager. In August 1974, he left the syndicate department to become a full-time stockbroker with Schneider, Bernet. In April 1975, Mr. Rowe joined Wood, Struthers and Winthrop as an institutional securities salesman. Mr. Rowe remained with Wood, Struthers and Winthrop until September 1976, when he rejoined Schneider, Bernet as Corporate Syndicate Manager and Vice President. In December 1978, Mr. Rowe left Schneider, Bernet to form Rowe & Company, Inc.

In the fall of 1985, Mr. Rowe started Greenbrier Partners, Ltd., a private partnership, which invests primarily in publicly traded securities. Greenbrier has occupied the majority of Mr. Rowe’s time for the last twenty years. The partnership has produced above market returns. Mr. Rowe currently chairs the Texas Pension Review Board, and is a member of the executive committee of Texans for Lawsuit Reform. He has served on a number of other boards over the years.

Mr. Rowe’s articles have appeared in Forbes, Fortune, The American Banker, Southpoint, Texas Monthly, D Magazine and Grant’s Interest Rate Observer. He speaks publicly from time to time and is regularly quoted.

Mr. Rowe and his wife of thirty years, Michele, live in Dallas. They have four grown children.
